People of all ages came together in Shanghai to attend and celebrate Lifeline’s annual R U OK? Day on June 20th. While the event had to be scaled back to just 3 workshops, there was still plenty of opportunity to talk about helping and supporting family, friends and co-workers who may be struggling – particularly during such a tumultuous year.

Teens, working professionals and parents attended Lifeline’s two R U OK? workshops, where they learned strategies for checking in with those around them, asking “Are you ok?”, listening and being supportive. Lifeline also introduced students, teachers and school staff to its brand new R U OK? curriculum resources for middle and high school classrooms. Community Center Shanghai’s Director of Counseling Services, Carrie Jones, also provided a wonderful overview of the mental health resources in Shanghai and strategies for how to access them.

Lifeline is extremely grateful for the support of our many volunteers and our cherished community partners, including ELG for helping us to organize and promote the R U OK? Day Art Competition 2020, the Community Center Shanghai, Lanna Coffee and Sherpa’s. Thanks also to Education First for allowing us to hold the event in their Tongren Lu premises. Extra special thanks to the Shanghai United Foundation for their essential support of our fundraising efforts.

A huge thank you also to all the wonderful professionals from the Shanghai mental health community, those both in China and currently outside the country who were not able to be there in person on the day with us – your continued support is invaluable!
